Zion technician commissioning an RSI public-safety BDA — RSI cabinet open, spectrum analyzer running on tablet
Recent RSI BDA commissioning, Leander TX. RSI M5-Series BDA open during acceptance testing. Spectrum analyzer running on tablet, batteries sized for the 12-hour standby per NFPA 1225 (2022 ed.).

Why an RSI-certified installer matters

RSI is the manufacturer that has been first to UL 2524 since 2018, and the first to UL 2524 3rd Edition — the listing version that IFC 2024 and NFPA 1225 (2022 ed.) explicitly reference. Their M5 Series BDA is the workhorse of public-safety ERCES installations in the US.

Installation quality matters. An RSI BDA installed by a non-certified contractor can void warranty coverage, fail acceptance testing, and create compliance exposure for the building owner. RSI's certified-integrator program exists because BDA installation requires more than just running cable — it requires:

What we do on every RSI install

  1. Pre-design scoping via our free Building Signal Check™ tool — confirms which IFC edition and local amendments apply to the building
  2. RF coverage survey under IFC §510.5.3 (or jurisdiction-equivalent procedure)
  3. System design using RSI M5 Series equipment, with antenna count and placement modeled to the building's RF environment
  4. FCC frequency authorization letter coordination with the AHJ's radio system administrator
  5. Plan submittal to the AHJ in the format and via the channel they require (PE-sealed where required, e.g., Houston)
  6. Installation by Zion's NICET-credentialed team
  7. Acceptance testing using 20-grid procedure, −95 dBm threshold, DAQ 3.0, 95% general / 99% critical coverage
  8. Documentation package to the building owner and AHJ
  9. Annual recertification testing per IFC §510.6.1 going forward
